Watch the video again and challenge your students to make note of any imperative verbs the chef uses. Point out that as the actor/chef makes the recipe, he or she is giving instructions with the imperative mood to the viewer. There are hundreds of cooking demos available on YouTube, so choose one that your students may like and show it to the class. You may want to make a list of all the verbs your students find and review their definitions, especially cooking specific verbs, as a class.īesides written recipes, many cooking demonstrations use the imperative to communicate with their viewers how to make a particular dish. Then have your students find examples of imperative verbs in their own recipes. Point out to your students that the instructions in the recipe use the imperative mood and that the verbs take the second person present conjugation on a sample recipe. Copies from cookbooks or printouts online are great, but do not overlook simple instructions that come with a food product, like cooking directions on how to make pasta or rice. You will want to match the complexity and content of the recipe to your students’ language level. Start your imperative cooking lesson by giving your students some recipes to look over. Keep incorporating the verbs they have learned into lessons, give them a lot of opportunities to hear and read the proper tense, and it will eventually become second nature to them. You’ll hear your students frequently getting them wrong in speech even though they just answered perfectly on a test – remember that even native speakers frequently mix up verb conjugations and tenses as kids. Remember, it takes a long time for verb conjugations to become intuitive. Create some mad libs that feature a lot of verbs, and make sure that as students are filling them out, they are paying attention to the context and tense of the sentence and conjugating the verb properly. Even with the highest IPC and clocks in the market, when averaged across all games, the two configurations of the i9-13900K post a difference of just 0.9% in favor of the stock configuration with the E-cores enabled. And much like 1440p, there are outliers to make the case for each setup-Prey, Metro Exodus, GreedFall, and Far Cry 5 each post significant 8-10% performance gains with the E-cores being disabled whereas Warhammer III, Spider-Man Remastered, Far Cry 6, Dota 2, and Civilization VI, prefer the E-cores left untouched. In between these two extremes, the majority of games still show too insignificant a variation, and we end up with a stalemate between the two configurations. If we look through all the games we can divide them into several groups. There's those games that really show no differences, E-Cores enabled or not (AC: Valhalla, Days Gone, DOOM Eternal, Monster Hunter, Witcher 3). The next group of games are titles that always run better with E-Cores enabled (Age of Empires, Dota 2). We also have games that run better with E-Cores disabled, but only as long as they are CPU limited (Far Cry 5, Metro Exodus). The opposite behavior is observed, too, of course. Titles such as Far Cry 6 and Divinity Original Sin 2 run better with E-Cores enabled, while CPU limited, but as soon as they are GPU limited, there is only marginal difference. The biggest takeaway from this article is that you really shouldn't worry about the E-Cores. 12/2/2023 0 Comments Ia writerIPad-app roots in support for cloud storage. The latest Mac version of iA Writer shows its Unfortunately, they fade away as you type-the whole distraction-free thing again-and you need to click the mouse somewhere else in the window to view them. If, like me, you often write to word counts, these numbers are great information to have. You’ll find the usual word and character counts, along with a metric called reading time, which is an estimate, based on the number of words in the document, of how long it would take someone to read it. Writer supports OS X’s built-in spell checker, and in the footer of the Writer window are a few basic document statistics. And if you want formatting without Markdown, you’re out of luck. Formatting characters disappear only when you export a file to RTF and open it in another program. The drawback is that while surrounding text with asterisks, for example, does indeed underline it, the asterisks remain visible, as well, which can be confusing. The advantage of using Markdown for an app such as iA Writer is that you can apply formatting without having to use any menus or buttons (though you can use standard formatting keyboard shortcuts-Command-U for underline and Command-B for bold-and Writer will apply the asterisks for you). Markdown syntax for, for example, underlining (asterisks around text), bold (double asterisks around text), and headers (one or more # symbols)-add these control characters and the formats are immediately applied to the designated text. If you must have formatting, iA Writer uses I would prefer if focus mode would at least highlight several sentences before and after the active one, if not the entire paragraph containing the active sentence. Just as atoms have value only when they form molecules, individual sentences are meaningful mainly when combined with other sentences-they depend on the surrounding text for context. To use a chemistry analogy, a sentence is an atom and a paragraph is a molecule. Few writers that I know actually write sentence by sentence. Personally, I wasn’t a fan of focus mode. The program even provides keyboard shortcuts (Command-Option-left arrow and -right arrow) to navigate from sentence to sentence. According to the developer, this mode allows you to focus on the specific text you’re actively writing. In other words, the sentence you’re typing is displayed in black, with the rest of the text in a medium grey. But up till that point content blocks is simple and easy for me.The second feature is “focus mode,” which, when active, dims all the text in your document except the current sentence. My wild guess is I probably wouldn’t write anything longer than about 20,000 words using iA Writer. I don’t know where the “dividing line” is when Scrivener is definitely a better choice … but I’d guess anything longer than 50,000 words I’d definitely do in Scrivener. It’s not unusual for me to write documents that are 5,000 to 10,000 words long and content blocks is just fine & simple in that situation. If I were writing a novel I’d go with Scrivener. So not a fast/obvious as Scrivener, but definitely more than fast enough for my purposes. some other iA Writer file) the app does a great automatic job of searching/finding that other file. The phrase “With so many tools, it’s challenging to keep everyone on the same page” appears in the description of Notion. One guy laughs at two guys laugh with, and that can make all the difference.I always had a feeling that Jordan Peele would make a great horror filmmaker even before the release of his 2017 Academy Award-winning thriller Get Out. But in the riskiest set-ups - the jokes that dealt with slavery or police brutality, that pushed the outrageous to straight up outrage - the sight of a team, rather than a single individual, offered the audience an image of solidarity, of shared experience that comforted as much as it disturbed. Two performers make sketch comedy possible by anchoring it with an essential give-and-take. As with Colbert and Stewart, the satire of “Key & Peele” is humanist rather than misanthropic, but the fact that there are two men provides one sort of tension while diffusing another. But Key and Peele exude a mutual respect that gives their comedy a consistent baseline of decency. Not every comedic team is harmonious for some, personal discord was part of the joke. Many famous comedians come in pairs, but it’s difficult to think of another instance in which teamwork was so essential to the comedy. Male insecurity and competition fueled much of “Key & Peele,” from a classic sketch in which two married guys pretend to each other that they call their wives “bitch” to this season’s surreal depiction of two football players getting fired up in the locker room. Two car valets waxing eloquent over the many deaths in “Game of Thrones” are just as credible as the shut-in who actually owns lightning in a bottle. Just as their lives are informed by many things, so is their comedy.Ī sketch about the frustrating overlap of songs in “Les Mis” is just as polished and pointed as one in which a rap singer tries to argue that a song in which he confessed to murder was just a song. While Peele’s Obama spoke in a carefully soothing cadence, Key’s wild-eyed Luther gave voice to the president’s imagined inner thoughts, which were those of an angry black man.īut the beauty and significance of “Key & Peele” came from its refusal to be defined by race, or politics, or culture, or anything other than all of those things. It’s no accident that their breakout occurred during the last election, with sketches involving President Obama and his anger translator, Luther. Where else could we laugh, albeit nervously, at the sight of a white officer shooting a series of black men for no good reason?Īs biracial men, Key and Peele physically embodied the post-Obama America, both the ongoing arguments about the nature of race and the absurdity of those arguments in a time when racism continues to claim lives. Where else would you see a slavery auction depicted through the prism of a popularity contest? Where else would a high-strung inner city substitute teacher struggle with white students’ names such as “Aaron” and “Denise”? Where else would a black man, unjustly arrested, hit his head and take a trip to “Negrotown?” Technically and thematically, “Key & Peele” served up the very things “The Colbert Report” and “The Daily Show” examined from a distance: The literal and figurative blurring of modern demographics in the digital age, the strange and often seemingly contradictory mash-up of socio-political, info-tainment, personal economics that informs much of the cultural discourse.Īt its most literal level, the show was a contradiction: an old-fashioned, often light-hearted sketch comedy that took on high-risk topics. In their final season, they didn’t just take on racist police brutality in several sketches as disturbing as amusing, they tore down “True Detective” and artsy-fartification of TV in general with scenes of crazy-zen road trip bromance and opening credits that mocked modern dramas. Which is why they were able to juggle, with four hands, issues most comedians only dance around. There was no “us” and “them” with “Key & Peele” there was only ever us. It wasn’t a lecture from behind a desk, it was theater in the round. They were making the joke, but they were part of it as well. In their many pointed, silly, stinging and wildly diverse sketches, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele always included themselves in the satiric gaze. 12/2/2023 0 Comments Shred 415 creve coeur classesLouis, MO 63131Ĩ384 Musick Memorial Dr., St. Rebounding, suspension training, surf, cycleġ560 S Lindbergh Blvd., St. IDENTITY THEFT PREVENTION CLASS Date: TBD Time: 6:00-7:30 p.m. Shred415 - East Side Milwaukee fitness studio Shred415.
